Welcome message

Welcome Message from the Medical Director

Dear patients, families, colleagues, and friends,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the website of Yordanos Orthopedic & Trauma Specialty Center.

My name is Dr. Worku Mekonnen Bogale, Chief Expert Orthopedic Surgeon and Medical Director of Yordanos Orthopedic & Trauma Specialty Center. I was born in Burie, Gojjam, Ethiopia, and graduated from Minsk State Medical Institute in Belarus in 1984. I spent the first ten years of my professional career serving patients in hospitals in Ogaden, Woldiya, Bahir Dar, and Addis Ababa.

In 1998, I took a step that was both challenging and deeply meaningful to me: I established a small private orthopedic clinic, at a time when dedicated private orthopedic services were virtually nonexistent in Ethiopia. What began as a modest clinic has grown over the years into Yordanos Orthopedic & Trauma Specialty Center, with 54 beds, two operating theatres, and a dedicated team of 149 professionals.

Our journey has always been guided by one fundamental principle: the patient comes first. We believe that excellent orthopedic and trauma care requires not only advanced medical knowledge and technology, but also compassion, integrity, teamwork, and respect for every patient.

Today, we are preparing for the next chapter of this journey. We are soon embarking on an expansion program that will bring our capacity to 200 beds, with facilities designed to meet international standards. Our vision is to build a center that combines modern orthopedic and trauma care with the human values that have defined Yordanos from the beginning.

I am deeply grateful to our patients for their trust, to our staff for their dedication, and to our colleagues and partners who have supported us throughout the years.

As we look to the future, our commitment remains unchanged: to provide safe, compassionate, high-quality orthopedic and trauma care and to contribute to the advancement of orthopedic medicine in Ethiopia.

Welcome to Yordanos Orthopedic & Trauma Specialty Center.

Your trust is our responsibility, and your health is our commitment.

Thank you.

Our story

Yordanos began in June 1998 as the Yordanos Higher Clinic, a small clinic focused on orthopedic care. The first nine years were spent providing general orthopedic and trauma services with limited finance, equipment, and implants — and, at the start, a single specialist covering the clinic around the clock.

As demand grew, so did our ambition: on February 24, 2007, Yordanos Hospital was inaugurated as a dedicated orthopedic and trauma center serving patients from across Ethiopia and the wider East Africa region.

Our mission remains the one we set out with: to augment the existing health service and to create a strong, well-organized, specialized orthopedic, trauma, and emergency service that covers not only Ethiopia but the whole of East Africa.
